Each DSC Platform shelf includes ten fans housed in two removable fan trays.

  • air intake fan tray accessible from the front
  • exhaust fan tray accessible from the rear

Each fan tray plugs into a blind mating receptacle inside the chassis, and is secured by a retention screw on either side of the front of the fan tray.

The following table, Cooling Subsystem Part Numbers, lists the spare or replacement cooling subsystem parts that can be purchased from Ribbon.

Warning

Do not insert your fingers or foreign objects into the DSC Platformwhile it is operating and the fan blades are rotating.

Caution

Cooling capability is reduced when fan trays are absent from an operating DSC Platformchassis; therefore, it is important to minimize the time that a fan tray is absent. For typical system configurations, no fan tray should be absent for more than two minutes during operation.

Note

A #2 flat blade screwdriver is required to remove a fan tray.

The chassis does not have to be powered down to remove a fan tray.

Remove a Fan Tray

Start

  1. Press the black button behind the left handle of the fan tray until the hot-swap LED is lit. When this LED stops blinking, the tray is temporarily inactive and is ready to be removed.
  2. Loosen (turn counterclockwise) the recessed screw behind the handle on each side of the fan tray until it stops turning. This releases the fan tray latch.
  3. Use the handles on the sides of the fan tray to pull this fan tray out of the chassis.

Install a Fan Tray

Start

  1. Align the fan tray with the guides in the chassis. Orient the fan tray with the handles toward the outside.
  2. Slide the fan tray into the bay.
  3. Press the fan tray in firmly to seat its connector.
Observe that the LED is lit and then eventually is unlit, and the service LED shows green indicating an in-service condition. The fans automatically start.

    Tip

The service LED is located on the side of the fan tray opposite to the hot-swap LED.

  4. Tighten the screw (clockwise) on each side of the tray behind the handles until it stops turning. These screws lock the fan tray into place. Do not over tighten the screws.
