In this section:

Four CPUs are assigned to the DSC SWe VM while deploying and creating the first and second DSC SWe VM. To improve performance, you can assign different CPU cores to a DSC SWe VM, and allocate resources for the CPU and memory for each DSC SWe VM.

Caution

The DSC SWe VM must be powered off before changing the configuration of the given DSC SWe VM.

Scheduling Affinity for a DSC SWe VM

The Scheduling Affinity option lets you manage the DSC SWe VM CPUs that are distributed across the VMware ESXi host's physical cores (and hyperthreads if hyperthreading is enabled). Using CPU affinity, you can assign a DSC SWE VM to a specific processor. This assignment allows you to restrict the assignment of virtual machines to an available processor in multiprocessor systems.

Start
  1. In the ESXi Web interface, click Virtual Machines and click the required DSC SWe VM.

  2. Click Edit.

  3. Expand the CPU table.
  4. Enter a comma-separated or hyphenated list of processor ranges in the Scheduling Affinity section. For example, 0,4-7 would indicate affinity with CPUs 0, 4, 5, 6, and 7.

    Tip

Selecting all processors is similar to not selecting any affinity. The number of affinities is dependent on the physical CPUs available.

Power Management for an ESXi host

For latency-sensitive applications, any form of power management adds latency when an idle system responds to an event. Setting BIOS power management to High disables any form of active power management of ESXi host. For more information on CPU power management policy, refer to VMware documentation.

Start
  1. In the ESXi Web interface, click Host and then click Manage.

  2. Click Hardware.

  3. Click Power Management.

  4. Click Change policy and select High performance.

  5. Click OK.

Allocate Resources to CPU and Memory for a DSC SWe VM

Resource allocation guarantees minimum allocation for a DSC SWe VM. The ESXi host allows you to power on a DSC SWe VM only if there are enough unreserved resources to satisfy the reservation of the DSC SWe VM. By default, the reservation is set to 0. You can specify a reservation if you need to guarantee that the minimum required amounts of CPU or memory are always available for the DSC SWe VM.

Start
  1. In the ESXi Web interface, click Virtual Machines and click the required Virtual Machine.

  2. Expand the CPU row and configure attributes as required.

  3. Expand Memory row and click Reserve all guest memory (All locked) option.

  4. Click Save.
