MTP2 User Peer-to-Peer Adaptation Layer (M2PA) is a SIGTRAN protocol that supports the transport of SS7 MTP2 user part signaling messages over IP using SCTP.

Therefore, an M2PA link is used for communication between SS7 systems over IP rather than T1 or E1 TDM links. M2PA links are based on RFC4615.

The MTP3 to MTP2 interface is described in ITU Q.701 and ANSI T1.111.1 in terms of abstract primitives. MTP2 User Adaptation Layer (M2UA) is an IETF protocol (RFC3331) that provides a realization of the MTP3 to MTP2 over SCTP and associated procedures.

This allows M2UA-capable MTP3 and MTP2 from different vendors, or in different geographic locations, to inter-operate.

Several links may be configured on the (remote) MTP2, and several links may be managed using the same M2UA/SCTP association.

In the Web UI, the M2PA connection between MTP3 and MTP2 is modeled as an L2 Connection with Type set to HWM_SCTP and M2UA Protocol Type set to M3UA.

The links that use an M2UA L2 Connection are M2UA Links. M2UA links can be any link type supported by the (remote) MTP2.

Note

TDM Links and HSL are not supported on the DSC SWe. If these link types are required on a DSC SWe, M2UA links may be used to a TDM I/O board (AMC348) connected with SCTP/IP. For information about M2UA Links, refer to Creating an M2UA Link and Configuring M2UA Links.

DSC SWe Capacity

A Diameter transaction is comprised of a Request message and the associated Answer message that is received and sent by the DSC Platform. Together, these two messages equate to one Diameter Transaction per Second (TPS).

For detailed information about the DSC SWe capacity and performance, refer to Capacity and Performance.

Advanced Managed Routing allows operators greater control over the network routing of messages and is used in scenarios where a core network of STPs has a dual role of routing and monitoring and billing for the network.

Mostly used on SS7 edge node to force the routing of traffic through the core STPs while preserving network integrity, therefore, enabling centralized network monitoring.

14.4.0Current

Gateway Screening (GWS) provides the utilities to control the flow of SS7 messages into and through a signaling network from SS7 links.

A DSC that supports this process examines the contents of incoming messages and determines whether the message is authorized and accepted or is unauthorized and rejected.

If a message is accepted, it is sent to MTP, SCCP, or Integrated Service Digital Network User Part (ISUP) for further processing.

If a message is rejected, it is discarded.

This value can be changed for an NA which has a compatible SS7 variant.

14.4.0Current

Point Code Emulator (PCE) provides the utilities to transparently configure and manipulate SS7 nodes without disrupting or reconfiguring the public SS7 network.

PCE is similar to Network Address Translation (NAT) on an IP network, whereby private network addresses are hidden from the outside world and incoming messages are rerouted to their proper destination. PCE works in conjunction with SCCP.

It is not possible to run PCE and the Level 4 Converter at the same time.

PCE Basic: The purpose of the Basic PCE is to separate private and public addressing spaces by presenting one or more PCs to the public network while concurrently managing a full private network.

he Basic PCE has one NA in the public network and one NA in the private network.

PCE Enhanced: Provides the same functionality as the Basic PCE, but its main purpose is to support the same PC in two private networks.

This ability allows you to replace an existing softswitch with a new softswitch without any service outage.

Hence, the PCE presents one PC to the public network while directing traffic to the new and existing softswitches as determined by the trunk mappings.

The Enhance PCE has one NA in the public network and two NAs in the private network.

Based on the response (INAP Connect or Continue), the INAP GW routes the original SRI-for-SM request to its new destination using GTT.
