Use this procedure to add an NIC to an existing DSC SWe VM. For information on creating a new virtual switch, refer to Creating a Virtual Switch.

Adding a network adapter card (NIC) to a DSC SWe VM allows you to:

  • bridge a network
  • enhance communications
  • or replace an older adapter

You can select the NIC type, network connection, and whether the device must be connected after the DSC SWe VM is booted. For more information on NIC, refer to VMware documentation.

Start
  1. Log onto the VMware ESXi host using your Web browser or the DSC SWe Menu UI (as required).
  2. Click Virtual Machines and select the required Virtual Machine.
  3. Click Edit.
  4. Click Add Network Adapter.

  5. Click New Network Adapter.

  6. In the Adapter Type drop-down list, select the required adapter type.

    Tip

For IPv4, use the default adapter type VMXNET 3. For IPv6, change the default adapter type to E1000 to avoid traffic loss.

  7. Click the Network Adapter drop-down list and select the vSwitch created (for example, New_vSwitch).

  8. Click Connect at power on.
  9. Click Save.
