Perform the following procedure to configure network interfaces for a DSC SWe VM on VMware and then verify that you have access.

Prerequisites
  •  Log on to the required DSC SWe VM.

Configure the Network Interfaces

Start
  1. Enter the following command:

    vm-init
    Tip

When upgrading from DSC SWe 15.0.x to higher versions, if the host system has two DSC SWe VMs of DSC 15.0.x created and running, for example, VM 1 and VM 2, you can number the new DSC SWe VMs using any integer value ranging from 3 to 20. You cannot use an integer value for an existing DSC SWe VM in the same cluster.

  2. Enter a unique integer ranging from 1 through 20 for the DSC SWe VM. For example, enter 1 if you are creating your first DSC SWe VM on a DSC SWe VM cluster.

  3. Enter an interface prefix number from the list as required. For the first two DSC SWe VMs, enter 1 to select the mgt from the list; otherwise, select the prefix (2 to 5) for the required interface.

    Tip

The default interfaces are listed along with any additional interfaces added after deploying and creating a DSC SWe VM. For more information, refer to Deploying and Creating a DSC SWe VM.

  4. Enter an interface prefix number from the list. For the first two DSC SWe VMs, enter to select mgt from the list; otherwise, choose the prefix (2 to 5) for the required interface.

    Tip

Select the interface in the same order as it was listed in the Network Mapping window during the DSC SWe VM creation. For example, if the Network Mapping window lists MGT, HA, and PKT networks; first MGT must be selected followed by HA and PKT networks. Also, ensure the MAC addresses listed match with the corresponding networks listed in the Network Mapping window. For more information, refer to (Network Mappings).

  5. Enter the integer value 0 or 1 as suffix for the MGT interface.

    Tip

The MGT port is required only for the first two DSC SWe VMs created. Enter 0 for the first MGT interface (mtg0) and 1 for the second MGT interface (mtg1).

During an upgrade, the DSC SWe VMs destined to replace VM1 and VM2 must follow the same rules where mtg0 and mtg1 are assigned.

  6. Repeat steps from 1 through 5 for the second MGT interface.

  7. Repeat steps from 3 through 4 for the HA interface.

    Tip

By default, the prefix for ha interface will be ha0 for all DSC SWe VMs. A suffix is predefined for the HA interface.

  8. Repeat the steps from 3 through 4 for the PKT interface.

  9. Enter an integer from 0 through 3 as the suffix for the PKT interface.

  10. If you have procured the license for IMF, repeat steps 3 through 4 and then enter an integer range from 0 through 1 as suffix for IMF interface.

  11. Enter q or press Ctrl+c to quit from the prompt.

  12. When prompted, enter the following command to reboot the system.

    reboot
  13. Perform the steps from 1 through 12 for other DSC SWe VMs created on a VM cluster; for example VM 2.

After configuring the network interfaces, verify that the DSC SWe VMs are communicating with each other.

Note

It is assumed that you are logged into the required DSC SWe VM.

Verify Access to the DSC SWe VM

Start
  1. Enter the following command at the Linux prompt.

    ping slotX_0

where X is the DSC SWe VM number.

    Note

The slotX_0 address communicates through the HA interface. If the slotX_0 is not reachable, check that the MAC address assigned to HA interface is the same both in the Web UI and through the CLI.
