Note

The following section is only applicable to the DSC Platform.

The DSC 8000 can be deployed as an STP for SS7 traffic routing over TDM and/or IP links and the DSC SWe can be deployed as an STP for SS7 traffic routing over IP links. The PSX is a Policy Server used to provide routing and call processing based on database provisioning. This feature combines the following functionality of these platforms:

  • DSC handles the MTP3 routing and ISUP encoding/decoding

  • PSX handles the database dip and determines if the number is ported or not

Mated-pair Deployment

SS7 traffic for redundancy is deployed in STP mated-pair configurations. The NP Gateway and GWR must be provisioned separately on each STP-pair but with equivalent configuration. The NP Gateway solution handles PSX queries locally on each STP.

Error Handling

The NP Gateway handles all ISUP IAM interceptions and processing locally. On the off chance that the PSX is unavailable or if the PSX response is invalid or has expired, the NP Gateway will route the IAM normally (not ported scenario).

For more information about error handling, see the DSC Alarms Guide and Considerations for PSX-related Alarms.
