Overview

Today’s signaling networks are exponentially expanding to address the increase in traffic due to mobile services, network convergence, and new applications. Ribbon solutions are built to scale to meet these requirements. Ribbon products are right-sized, creating an unbeatable value proposition for medium to large service providers.

The key to any new signaling solution is the ability to maintain the value of existing assets while adopting the new IP-based signaling infrastructure. Ribbon's DSC is just that – evolution, not revolution. This flexible solution delivers comprehensive capabilities to mobile and fixed service providers looking for advanced routing and application services at the core of their network, while seamlessly ensuring continued support for an operator’s legacy infrastructure.

The DSC is fully configurable as high-capacity Diameter Routers, SS7 Signaling Transfer Point (STP), Signaling Gateway (SG), or any combination of these entities.

The DSC hardware and software is developed, produced, and supplied by Ribbon. The ability to design and produce its own hardware platforms, coupled with expertise in providing innovative software, enables Ribbon to produce high-performance, scalable, and flexible solutions. With built-in redundancy and hot-swap for all active system components, this architecture gives service providers the five-nines (99.999%) availability required in today’s networks.

Platforms and Scalability

The DSC can be implemented as a hardware-based single-shelf or multi-shelf DSC 8000. The software-based DSC SWe can be implemented using a KVM, VMware, or OpenStack host. The following figure shows the Ribbon DSC portfolio for SS7 and Diameter solutions.

Diameter and SS7 Solutions

As shown in the following table, with the exceptions noted, the DSC platforms provide a combined solution supporting Diameter and SS7 protocols simultaneously on the same platform.
