This section provides the procedure for extracting an AMC with and without the use of an extraction tool.
- If required, use the Stop All Software Applications command to properly stop all software applications on the card that you want to extract (refer to To shut down software on a system card).
- Disconnect any peripheral device cables from the AMC.
To unlock the AMC, put one hand on the card faceplate and pull on the handle until it is fully extended.
The AMC’s blue hot-swap LED blinks to indicate that the handle is open and the AMC is waiting to be deactivated. It is not yet safe to extract this card in this state. Wait until the blue LED stops blinking and remains illuminated to indicate that the card is ready for extraction.
Tip
As you are gently pulling on the handle (see the next step), two stops can be felt. After the second stop, remove your hand from the module faceplate, stop pulling the card with your other hand, and proceed with the next step.
- Using an extraction tool, such as the one manufactured by XTECH (not supplied), grasp the card handle hole to easily remove this card without breaking the handle.

To insert an AMC
- Unlock the AMC ejector handle by gently pulling it away from the front panel.
- Slide the AMC into the selected slot in the system, aligning the card with the guides near the top of the slot.
The AMC audibly snaps into place when properly inserted. When the AMC edge connector makes proper contact with the motherboard AMC connector, the blue hot-swap LED turns ON and the hardware connection process begins.
- Press the handle toward the front panel to lock the AMC in the system. When the AMC is operational, the blue hot-swap LED turns OFF.
- Connect any cables to the AMC faceplate from peripheral devices as required.
