In this section:

The DSC SWe (on KVM) can be deployed in the following scenarios:

  • a VM created and running the DSC SWe on two separate KVM Hosts
  • multiple VMs created and running the DSC SWe across multiple KVM Hosts

A VM must have a unique VM Name and virtual slot identifier (for example, virtual slot 1 or virtual slot 2) to distinguish from other VMs deployed in a DSC SWe. Routing and Management VMs are defined in virtual slot 1 and virtual slot 2. Routing VMs are defined in the remaining virtual slots.

Limitations

  • A single DSC SWe deployed on one physical KVM Host is not supported.
  • As many as 10 VMs may be installed on one physical KVM Host; however, performance degradation can occur.

DSC Platform Dual Deployment Configurations

The dual configuration consists of either one of the following deployment scenarios:

  • one VM created in virtual slot 1 on a KVM Host, and another VM created in virtual slot 2 on a separate KVM Host
  • multiple VMs created on a KVM Host, and another VM created in virtual slot 2 on a separate KVM Host

In both scenarios, communication between the VMs is through the High Availability (HA) interface. For more information on the HA interface, refer to Configure the VM Environment and KVM Host.

Dual VM Deployment

Note

The recommended reference configuration is the deployment of dual VMs on separate KVM Hosts.

The following figure shows two DSC SWe VMs installed on separate KVM Hosts. Communication between the VMs is through an external network connection using the HA interface.

Multiple VM Deployment

The following figure shows a multiple VM deployment configuration. The DSC SWe consists of dual VMs installed on a single KVM Host in virtual slot 1 and slot 3, and an additional VM installed in virtual slot 2 on a separate physical KVM Host. Communication between the VMs is through an external network connection using the HA interface.

Multiple VMs Deployed On Dual KVM Hosts

Caution

When multiple VMs are deployed on a pair of KVM Hosts connected by an HA communication link, the VMs must each have unique slot identifiers across the system. For example,

  • Routing and Management VM1 must be installed in virtual slot 1 on one KVM Host.
  • Routing and Management VM2 must be installed in virtual slot 2 on the second KVM Host.
