MTP Level 3 timers encompass all linkset, routeset, and general node procedures for a given NA. MTP Level 3 timer functions affect many MTP3 procedures including the following:

  • changeover

  • changeback

  • rerouting

  • inhibiting management

  • transfer prohibition/restriction

  • routeset congestion

  • MTP restart
Caution

Timer attributes should be configured with care, especially on a live system. Interaction of timers through the various MTP Level 3 procedures is complex and changing them incorrectly can reduce system stability.

Any changes made to timer attributes are lost when the SS7 Variant is changed.

There are two ways to set the Level 3 timer attributes

To configure the MTP Level 3 timer attributes for all Linksets

  1. From the Main Menu, click MTP3.

  2. Click the NA you want to configure.

  3. Click Timer Configuration.

  4. Edit the attributes as required, and click Continue. You are prompted to confirm the changes.

    Tip

The Restore Debug Defaults action restores the MTP3 NA logging configurations to their default values and clears the associated logging alarms.

  5. Click Continue.

To configure the MTP Level 3 timer attributes for individual Linksets

Setting the L3 Timers under the Linkset to a value other than the default NODE VALUE overrides the parent NA values and affects all links in the linkset.

  1. From the Main Menu, click MTP3.

  2. Click the NA you want to configure.

  3. Click Linksets.

  4. Click the Linkset you want to configure.

  5. Click L3 Timer Configuration.

  6. Edit the attributes as required, and click Continue. You are prompted to confirm the changes.

    Tip

The Restore Debug Defaults action restores the link logging configurations within the associated linksets to their default values.

  7. Click Continue.
