It is recommended that you understand the following proxy bridge definitions to use SNMP with the DSC Platform:

Object

An Object is a set of Attributes defined by the same Object Types and instances. Items within an SNMP Agent that can be selected using the product Web User Interface (UI) are Objects. An low-speed (LSL) Link is an example of an object.

Object Type

An Object Type defines a set of Attributes and children Object Types related to the Object. For example, when selecting MTP > Linksets > Link > Specific Link using the Web UI, all of these selections are Object Types.

Attribute

An Attribute is the variable identifier definition that can be selected for modification. For example, all variables under a particular link in the Web UI have a unique variable identifier or Attribute. A Signaling Link Code (SLC) is an example of a link Object Attribute. An Attribute is an Object in SNMP.

Instance

An Instance is the specific instance of the variable identifier selected. The Attributes provide the variable type and the Instance gives the unique occurrence of this variable in the system.
