Overview

The supported number of VMs on the DSC SWe depend on the licensing configuration and the capacity of KVM and VMware hosts. Two of these VMs are required and are in virtual slots 1 and 2. These VMs are used for both management and routing purposes and are referred to as follows:

  • Management and Routing VM1 (Slot 01 - [RTNG_MGMT_CPU])

  • Management and Routing VM2 (Slot 02 - [RTNG_MGMT_CPU])

All other VMs are used for routing purposes and are referred to as Routing VMs (Slot 3 to 10 - [RTNG_CPU]).

The DSC Platform supports internal, external, and shared IP interfaces.

The internal IP interface subnet supported for the DSC Platform is 192.168.240.<slot number>.

The internal network is private and the IP interfaces are inaccessible to systems outside of the DSC Platform.

The external IP interfaces [(pkt0, pkt1, pkt2, and pkt3 and imf0 and imf1) (if the system is configured for IMF)] are allocated to the two required Management and Routing VMs.

The shared IP interfaces on the two Management and Routing VMs are as follows.

  • Management and Routing VM1 - mgt0

  • Management and Routing VM2 - mgt1

If the DSC SWe is in a dual server configuration, the Management and Routing VM that boots first takes control of the shared IP interface. The unique IP interface periodically pings the gateways that were entered when you configured the management IP interface to confirm connectivity. If this Management and Routing VM is removed for any reason, the remaining Management and Routing VM takes over. Users connected to the Web UI may be asked to log onto the system again to resume their activities.

Reconfiguring Ethernet Interfaces on a DSC SWe

The VM Ethernet interfaces are initially configured when a new VM is created [(see Creating a New DSC SWe VM on DSC SWe (on KVM)] and [(see Configuring Network Interfaces (on DSC SWe (on VMware)]. You can reconfigure these interfaces if required using the Web UI.

Caution

It is highly recommended that you review the Creating an IP Plan on the KVM Hypervisor and/or Creating IP Plan on the VMware ESXi before you reconfigure any of the DSC SWe VM interfaces,

Caution

Reconfiguring any of the DSC SWe VM interfaces should be done with care. Any errors in your configuration may result in unexpected system behavior or loss of connectivity.

To reconfigure Ethernet interfaces on a DSC SWe

  1. From the Main Menu, click IP Networking.

  2. Click Interface Assignment.

  3. Configure any of the interfaces as required.
