You can assign a system Hostname to the DSC Platform using either Routing and Management VM in virtual slot 1 or slot 2. The software automatically appends this Hostname to the other VMs.

You must comply with some restrictions when setting the Hostname. Otherwise, you may not be able to log back into the Web or Menu UI. These restrictions are as follows:

  • The first character of the Hostname must be an upper or lowercase letter of the alphabet (a-z or A-Z).

  • The following characters can be any alphanumeric character.

  • The total number of characters must not exceed 32.

  • Hyphens, underscores, and periods are not allowed.

Note

The DSC Platform is installed with a pre-configured Hostname and Domain name. It is recommended that you change the Hostname and Domain name from the factory settings during the initial configuration of the DSC Platform.

When entering the Hostname in the Hostname Resolution screen (internal IP aliasing), the restrictions on allowed characters are different from the system Hostname, as follows:

  • The first character of the Hostname must be an upper or lowercase letter of the alphabet (a-z or A-Z).
  • The last character of the Hostname must be alphanumeric.
  • Characters in the middle positions can be any of the following: alphanumeric, period, hyphen or underscore.

Caution

Changing the local Hostname/Domain Name after the initial configuration is complete requires a system reboot. Such a reboot on a live system is service affecting; therefore, it is recommended that the reboot is done during a maintenance window.
