About the SBC SWe Lite Platform

The SBC SWe Lite is a virtualized, enterprise SBC designed for small- and mid-sized businesses. SWe Lite provides a virtual Customer Premise Equipment (vCPE) option for organizations looking to virtualize their interworking, security, and survivability for Unified Communications (UC). The SBC SWe Lite gives you the power to rapidly expand and activate features remotely using a simple license key, eliminating the need for on-site technicians or disruption to operations during peak business hours. With support for virtualization environments such as VMware ESXi, KVM, and Microsoft Azure, the SBC SWe Lite can be installed quickly and easily.

Ribbon SBC SWe Lite Release 8.0.0 Build 180  is a new release for the SBC SWe Lite product line.

New Features in this Release

CHOR-2372 / CHOR-2627 / CHOR-2639 Support SWe Lite in Microsoft Azure Marketplace

Microsoft Teams Direct Routing Media Bypass is not supported when SBC SWe Lite is hosted in Microsoft Azure due to the lack of static NAT support.

The Microsoft-certified SBC SWe Lite can now be deployed in Azure Marketplace, which saves enterprises time and energy on the SBC SWe Lite activation and configuration. In Azure, the SBC SWe Lite provides comprehensive security and interworking to enterprises deploying voice services in Microsoft Teams. Organizations can connect their SIP trunks to the Microsoft Phone System while optimizing Azure resources.

For more information, refer to:

CHOR-1899/CHOR-2397 Call Session Capacity Increase

The call performance of the SBC SWe Lite has increased call session density, including RTP media manipulation mode sessions, at all supported VM resource configurations. Also, Microsoft Hyper-V now supports virtual machine resources for 2 vCPU (1.5 GB) and 4 vCPU (2.5 GB).

For performance numbers, refer to:

SYM-21781 Support Date-/Time-Based Call Routing

Time of Day Routing enables the SBC to select a route for a call based on the local time and date; this option allows each specific route to optionally be selected based on the current local system time. The Time of Day tables define a group of Time of Day entries which specify times and days of the week.

For more information, refer to:

CHOR-1185 Support Cloud-init for Interface Mapping and Initial Setup

The SBC SWe Lite supports the cloud-init function, which allows public clouds (such as Azure) to support automation. The cloud-init functionality allows the SBC SWe Lite to automatically deploy within an orchestrated environment.

For more information, refer to:

CHOR-1717 RTP/RTCP Multiplexing Support

Enables Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP/RTCP Multiplexing) for combining the two protocols' packets (RTP for data traffic and RTCP for control information) onto a single multiplexed UDP port. RTP/RTCP Multiplexing is supported according to RFC 5761, in which the SDP contains the value of a=rtcp-mux

For more information, refer to:

CHOR-1718 Opus Codec Transcode Support

The SBC SWe Lite now supports the Opus voice codec, which is used toward the IP side of a VoIP call. The codec improves audio quality, but comes with higher bandwidth consumptions.

For more information, refer to:

CHOR-1761 ICE Lite Agent Support

With the addition of the ICE (Interactive Connection Establishment) Lite Agent Support feature, the SBC 1000/2000 now supports both full and lite implementations of ICE as described in RFC 8445 ICE lite, for public Internet ICE agents, interfaces to the Microsoft TEAMS Direct Routing interface. The SBC 1000/2000 integrates Microsoft Teams clients by acting as an ICE lite agent endpoint for SIP calls involving Network Address Translators (NATs). This feature enables direct routing between an existing enterprise voice infrastructure (that is, the PSTN carrier and SIP trunks used for trunking services) and the Microsoft Phone System in Office 365. The SBC acts as a PSTN gateway; sessions for Microsoft Teams users can be routed directly to the PSTN through the SBC.

For more information, refer to:

CHOR-1935 Support for Larger License Files and new Download Procedure

For ease of use and increasing message size, the procedure for installing licenses on the SWe Lite has been changed from a copy/paste procedure to a download function.

For more information, refer to:

CHOR-2017 Support for DPDK and SR-IOV for KVM

The SBC SWE Lite running in KVM not supports Single Root I/O Virtualization (SR-IOV), a type of PCI device that enables a physical device (such as a single NIC device) to share to multiple virtual functions. This functionality improves the performance of the I/O. SR-IOV configuration in KVM can share the physical port with multiple virtual machines.

For more information, refer to:

CHOR-2026 Support T.38 Fax on SWe Lite

The SBC SWe Lite now supports T.38 Fax.

For more information, refer to:

CHOR-2063 Edit Object within an Object

The new Edit Object within an Object is a new WebUI feature which enables you to configure an additional option without leaving the current configuration table. For example, if you add a SIP Signaling Group but have not yet added the Call Route Table, you can then click on an option to add the Call Route table without having to leave the SIP Signaling group.

The following configuration tables are affected:

CHOR-2603 Verify RNG procedure Added to KVM Documentation

The Random Number Generator device is present in the SWe Lite by default. A procedure to verify its presense has been added to the installation procedure for KVM.

For more information, refer to:

CHOR-2783 New Alarms to Indicate Azure License Status

Two new alarms indicate whether an Azure License is successfully installed on the SBC SWe Lite: Azure License Installed (Azure-enablement license is installed) and Non-Azure VM License Rejected (submitted license key does not include Azure enablement).

For more information, refer to:

CHOR-2815 Embedded SBC SWe Lite 30 Day Trial License

A SWe Lite 30-Day Trial License is now embedded within the SBC SWe software; this license does not have to be installed/applied separately.

For more information, refer to:

CHOR-2937 SGX License Expansion to Enable Partial RTP Media Manipulation

The SGX licenses are updated to activate select RTP media manipulation services, except transcoding.
