The Solid State Drive (SSD), a Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU), is a data storage device that uses integrated circuit assemblies as memory to store data persistently. The SSD stores the SBC 7000 platform operating system, application software and billing files. The SSD CRU product code is SBC-7000-SSD.

Parts and Tools Required

The following items are needed to replace a SSD:

  • Electrostatic discharge (ESD) strap
  • Replacement Solid State Drive
  • A #2 Phillips-head screwdriver


To prevent damage from electrostatic discharge, an ESD strap is provided in the SBC chassis accessory kit. Refer to Connecting Electrostatic Discharge Wrist Strap on SBC 7000 to install it.

Replacing the Solid State Drive

Warning

The chassis must be shutdown before changing the Solid State Drive. Removing the SSD while the system is running can crash the system and corrupt the SSD.

Perform the following procedure to replace the Solid State Drive:

  1. Remove the front bezel from the chassis by using the procedure at SBC 7000 Series Bezel.
  2. Attach an Electrostatic Discharge wrist strap to the ESD grounding point on the front panel of the chassis, and place the other end around your wrist (refer to Connecting Electrostatic Discharge Wrist Strap on SBC 7000 for details).
  3. Press the round button (SSD Eject button)  to the left of the SSD that is being removed.

  4. The BLUE LED next to the SSD must start flashing and the system must start a graceful shutdown.

  5. Wait for the BLUE LED to stay on SOLID.

  6. The SSD can now safely be removed.

  7. Unscrew the two thumb screws using the torque driver with 3/8" socket and 11/32" socket and pull the Solid State Drive disk to remove it as shown below.

    Insert the new SSD into the same slot that contained the old one.

  8. Remove the SSD and place it into the ESD protective bag.

  9. Remove the new SSD from the ESD bag and insert it completely to the empty SSD slot.

  10. Tighten the captive screw to 6" in-lb.

  11. Reapply power to SBC 7000 chassis (refer to appropriate Power Supply CRU for guidance).

  12. Verify that the SSD LED is Green (located to the right of SSD).

  13. Unplug the ESD wrist strap from the front of the chassis.

  14. Re-attach the front bezel assembly to SBC 7000 (refer to SBC 7000 Series Bezel).

CRU Storage

All SBC 7000 CRUs are shipped in electrostatic discharge bags and should be handled using appropriate ESD precautions.

The storage environment for these CRUs is:

  • Humidity must be less than 95% (non-condensing)
  • Temperature must be between -40C and +70C.

The ESD Susceptibility symbol warns of the presence of Ribbon devices susceptible to electrostatic discharge. Do not handle equipment without wearing a properly grounded ESD wrist strap.
