Ribbon allows you to replace legacy devices with newer hardware platforms.  This section describes how to replace legacy devices with newer devices.

Ribbon currently only allows the replacement of EdgeMarc 4550 devices with EdgeMarc 2900 devices.

The whole replacement process is automated. It involves the extraction of the legacy device's configuration and the subsequent preparation of a ZTP configuration for the replacement device. 

Perform the following steps to replace your legacy device with a newer device:

  1. Make sure to specify the device specific parameters unique to your legacy device in the Device Specific Settings. Refer to Setting Device Specific Parameters to set device specific parameters.
  2. Once you've specified the parameters unique to your legacy device, go to Devices > List  and choose the legacy device to replace. 
  3. On the device overview page, go to Actions > Replace Device.

  4. In the Replace Device dialog box, enter the MAC address of the new replacement device and click REPLACE.

    It may take up to ten minutes to complete this process. Once this process completes, a policy is generated automatically to provision the replacement device. 

  5. Complete the legacy device replacement by provisioning the replacement EdgeMarc device using ZTP. For more details on ZTP, refer to the ZTP Deployment Guide at the Ribbon Support Portal.
