The SBC 5400 platform uses a Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) for internal platform management. The BMC monitors and controls power, cooling, and alarms and presents data to internal/external management agents through standard IPMI 2.0-compliant data records.

The BMC can update the host (motherboard) processor BIOS and control the system clock generator configuration.

The BMC stores its CRU data records in a non-volatile memory, which is accessible through an I2C Sensor bus. The following table lists the BMC functionality in the SBC 5400 platform:

BMC FeaturePurpose
Temperature read, reset, and power on/off
  • Monitors the chassis temperature by using different temperature sensors through an I2C sensor bus.
  • Monitors the various chassis power supplies using external voltage monitors accessible through the I2C.
Memory storeStores CRU data records in a non-volatile memory accessible through an I2C Sensor bus.
Fan sub-system controlControls the SBC 5400 Fan subsystem by monitoring each fan’s tachometer output and adjusting individual fan speed in response to chassis temperature changes.
LED controlControls the five Front panel LEDs.
Alarm sub-system controlNot supported in current release.
Integrated firmware upgrade

SBC 5400 platform provides a mechanism for an integrated upgrade of the BIOS, BMC, and system PLDs firmware. This mechanism can be determined from the BMC GUI.

Connection to remote management entitiesProvides both serial and 10/100 Ethernet ports for connection to remote management entities.
