This section describes the method to upgrade the SBC 7000 BMC and BIOS firmware. The BMC and BIOS images are bundled into a single firmware package "firmware-7X00-V<release>.img".
Windows and/or dialog boxes depicted in this section are intended as examples only and may not reflect the actual software/firmware versions applicable to you. Refer to any associated hardware/software requirements as well as the relevant release note for software/firmware version details.
The following procedure describes how to upgrade the firmware from the BMC web GUI.
Log on to the SBC BMC GUI.
The BMC main screen is displayed.
Click Firmware Update. The Firmware Update screen is displayed.
Click Browse, and from the Open dialog browse to and select the firmware-7X00-V<release>.img firmware image. To determine the exact firmware version, refer to SBC Release Information for the current release notes.
The chosen file displays next to the Browse button.
Click Upload.
The firmware image is a 26 MB file and takes few minutes to upload based on the network.
Once the upload completes, the Firmware Update screen displays the firmware images and versions.
In the previous screen, if both the Old Version and New Version are same, then the update status displays as "No".
Click Confirm to continue. The upgrade progress bar displays on the screen.
This is a service-affecting procedure and will power off the host side of the SBC.
After you confirm, the BMC initiates an orderly shutdown of the host. If the process to shutdown the host fails, the upgrade fails. Take one of the following actions based on the current BMC version:
After the firmware upgrade completes, the following dialog displays. Click OK to close the message.
Once the upgrade completes, the BMC and host reboot automatically. Verify that the SBC starts and sync with its peer server before proceeding further.
Close the SBC BMC GUI.
Clear the browser cache and log on to the BMC GUI again.
Log on to the SBC BMC GUI again.
The SBC BMC prompts you to change the password after a successful upgrade.
This change is applicable only when the BMC is upgraded to version 03.13.00 and later versions.
Click OK to proceed. The User Management window is displayed.
You have an option to cancel the action. If canceled, the password remains the same as the default password and you are allowed to continue to work on the BMC. However, the warning message is displayed again on your next login to BMC. This reminder continues until the password is changed. Refer to Changing the BMC Password for the procedure to change the password.
For HA configuration, refer to Upgrade Flows for guidance.
