Ribbon SBC Edge Portfolio
The Ribbon SBC Edge Portfolio is comprised of the following Ribbon products:
The term "SBC Edge Portfolio" refers to the SBC 1000, SBC 2000, and SBC SWe Edge products.
Ribbon Communications’ SBC Edge Portfolio addresses the security and interoperability challenges associated with SIP-based communications. Enterprises and service providers can use these products to secure access to SIP trunking, Unified Communications (UC) services, or almost any other SIP-based device or service. Ribbon’s hardware-based appliances include options for FXO/FXS ports to integrate traditional analog or TDM-based lines and stations. These SBCs can also simplify migrations from conventional PBXs to cloud-based collaboration services. Software versions include support for leading hypervisor platforms and public cloud deployments. The SBC 1000 SBC 2000 and SBC SWe Edge share the same vital capabilities including:
- Security (topology hiding, encryption, protection against Denial-of-Service attacks, and more)
- Interoperability with leading PBXs, cloud UC services, SIP endpoints and SIP Trunking providers
- Certified for Microsoft Teams Direct Routing and Zoom Phone BYOC
- Advanced call routing features such as Active Directory/LDAP server routing integration and onboard call forking
- Robust Media Processing¹
- Support for redundant SIP trunks and WAN failover options (options vary based on platform)
- Microsoft Phone System emergency calling support
¹Transcoding is not supported for Opus on the SBC 1000/2000
The Ribbon eSBC portfolio includes an Easy Configuration Wizard to facilitate administrators' installation and maintenance of the solution. It also includes pre-configured templates for many popular devices and services. The SBC product family is tested for interoperability and performance against various third-party products and call flow configurations commonly found in customer networks.
SBC 1000
A hardware appliance-based platform ideally suited for small to medium-sized organizations and branch offices. The SBC 1000 smaller capacity does not mean a reduced feature set; it shares the same capabilities as other platforms in the portfolio. It provides robust security, high availability, and proven interoperability with leading cloud and premises-based collaboration and contact center solutions. The SBC 1000 capabilities include:
- Robust security, interworking, and media processing
- Up to 192 concurrent calls
- Certified for Teams Direct Routing and Zoom Phone BYOC
- Multiple configuration options including:
- T1/E1CAS/PRI ports
- FXO ports
- FXS ports
- BRI ports
- Teams Survivable Branch Appliance (SBA)
SBC 2000
A hardware appliance-based platform ideally suited for medium to large-size organizations and offices. It SBC 2000 shares the same capabilities as other platforms in the portfolio. Its larger capacity enables it to support organizations with 5,000 to 10,000 users (based on typical calling volumes). It provides robust security, high availability, and proven interoperability with leading cloud and premises-based collaboration and contact center solutions. The SBC 2000 capabilities include:

SBC SWe Edge
The SBC Software Edition Lite is virtualized SBC software that can be deployed on Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) Intel® x86 hardware platform running KVM, VMware® ESXi, and Microsoft Hyper-V hypervisors. It can also be deployed in public cloud environments, including Microsoft Azure and AWS. Once deployed it operates as a virtual appliance in the sense that it creates an easy-to-use self-contained environment that’s optimized to deliver robust security, interworking and media processing. That includes support for high quality, low-latency SILK and OPUS codecs.
The virtualized architecture offers organizations tremendous flexibility in terms of scale. The SBC SWe Edge can cost-effectively support a very small office or a headquarters office with more than 10,000 users (based on typical calling volumes).
The SBC SWe Edge is thoughtfully architected to minimize compute resources, enabling it to run in resourced constrained environments such as uCPE devices. This architecture also reduces monthly spend in public cloud deployments. It provides robust security, high availability and proven interoperability with leading cloud and premises-based collaboration and contact center solutions. The SBC SWe Edge capabilities and core features include:
- Robust security, interworking and media processing
- Support for up to 1,200 concurrent calls
- Certified for Teams Direct Routing and Zoom Phone BYOC
- Teams Virtual Survivable Branch Appliance (SBA)
- Call recording support (SIPREC)
- Robust media processing including SILK & OPUS
- Includes a 30-day trial license that can be upgraded for permanent use
Edge 8000 Series
- The Edge 8000 Series optionally contains the SBC SWe Edge as an onboard Virtual Network Function (VNF) and therefore shares much of the SBC Edge documentation.
