Unlike a Controlled Partition Upgrade, the SBC Edge (SBC) provides a "One-Step Upgrade" solution which automatically upgrades the currently inactive partition, makes it active, and boots the SBC from the newly upgraded partition. Ribbon recommends using this One-Step Upgrade operation after Running Initial Setup, or during scheduled downtime.
You must follow the instructions outlined in the Ribbon SBC 1000/2000 Upgrade guide before proceeding with the steps outlined on this page. The upgrade guide includes important prerequisites for Ribbon SBC 1000/2000 systems with a built-In Application Solution Module (ASM), and also describes which firmware files to use depending on the Ribbon SBC Edge System Hardware you are using.
The Software Upload progress bar is supported in the following browsers:
In browsers that do not support this feature, the software upgrade process will be presented the way it is shown in Release 4.0 and previous.
To automatically upgrade the SBC software:
In the left navigation pane, click System > Firmware Upgrade.
Perform a Backup on the configuration file.
Enter an optional Passphrase (see Using the Custom Passphrase).
Under Select File, click the Browse button and select the SBC firmware file listed in the general SBC Upgrade guide to upload.
Click Upgrade. The following warning popup will be displayed:
Click OK to upload the new firmware. Do not close or navigate away from the browser window, or you may receive partial results. Throughout the upload process, the web interface displays update messages to indicate the progression of the upgrade, as shown below. (If you navigate to this view from another browser, it will also display the progress.) Once the upgrade is complete, the system automatically reboots.
An average upgrade takes about 8 - 9 minutes. During the upgrade process, the remaining time estimates in the different steps becomes more accurate as the process progresses.
Upon completion, you will be automatically redirected to the Login screen. Verify that you are booting from the new partition either by checking the active partition, or by Viewing the Software Version.
