Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) and BIOS firmware. The BMC and BIOS images are bundled into a single firmware package "firmware-7X00-V<release>.img".

Note

Windows and/or dialog boxes depicted in this section are intended as examples only and may not reflect the actual software/firmware versions applicable to you. Refer to your hardware/software requirements relevant release note for software/firmware version details.

Use this procedure to upgrade the SBC firmware from the BMC web GUI.

  1. Log on to the SBC BMC GUI.

The BMC main screen displays defaulted to the Dashboard tab.

  2. Click Firmware Update. The Firmware Update screen is displayed.

  3. Click Choose File, and from the file explorer, browse to and select the "firmware-7X00-V<release>.img" firmware image. To determine the exact firmware version, refer to SBC Release Information for the current release notes.

  4. Click Upload.

    Note

The firmware image is approximately 26 MB and, depending on your network speed takes a few minutes to upload.

  5. Once the upload is complete, the Firmware Update screen will display the uploaded firmware images and versions.

    Note

If both the Old Version and New Version are identical, the update status displays "No."

  6. Click Confirm to continue. The upgrade progress bar displays.

    Note

This service-affecting procedure will power off the host side of the SBC.

After you confirm, the BMC initiates an orderly shutdown of the host. If the process to shutdown the host fails, the upgrade fails. Take one of the following actions based on the current BMC version:

    • If the BMC version is less than 3.18-R000, reboot the BMC by issuing the "reboot" command from the BMC command line. After the BMC boots up, shut down the host manually before upgrading.
    • A reboot is unnecessary if the BMC version is 3.18-R000 or greater. Power off the host manually before continuing with the upgrade from step 2.

  7. After the firmware upgrade completes, the following dialog displays. Click OK to close the message.

    Note

Once the upgrade is complete, the BMC and host will reboot automatically. Verify that the SBC starts and syncs with its peer before proceeding.

  8. Close the SBC BMC GUI.

  9. Clear the browser cache and log on to the BMC GUI again.

  10. Log onto the SBC BMC GUI again.
The SBC BMC prompts you to change the password after a successful upgrade.

    Note

This change is applicable only when the BMC is upgraded to version 03.13.00 and later versions.

  11. Click OK to proceed. The User Management window is displayed.

    Note

You have the option to cancel the action. If canceled, the password remains the same as the default password, and you are allowed to continue working on the BMC. However, the warning message is displayed again on your next login to BMC. This reminder continues until the password is changed. Refer to Changing the SBC 7000 BMC Password for the procedure to change the password.

  12. Verify the upgraded version in the BMC main screen and ensure the BIOS and BMC versions match those listed in the release notes.
