Overview

This section describes DSP density values on the SBC 7000 system according to its DSP module configuration.

Media handling functionality of SBC 7000 platform is identical to SBC 5000 series platform with DSP25 modules. All the functional specifications of SBC 7000 platform are similar to the SBC 5000 series platform with the exception of transcode operation capacities. Announcements and DTMF detection do not require additional resources beyond the DSP PAD required for transcoding.

A four DSP module configuration contains ample capacity to transcode the following calls over the two 10 Gigabit media interfaces:

  • G.711 to G.711
  • G.711SS to G.711SS
  • G.722 to G.711

The number of calls supported by the two 10 Gigabit media interfaces depends upon the packet size of those calls. For example, when transcoding either 20 ms G.711 to 20 ms G.711 or 20 ms G.722 to 20 ms G.711, the media interfaces support approximately 99,000 calls.

For the G.711 SS case, when transcoding 20 ms G.711SS to 20 ms G.711SS, the system can support up to 150,000 calls, the maximum number allowable on the  SBC 7000 platform. This scenario is not limited by DSP capacity or system bandwidth.

For G.722, a four DSP module configuration contains enough DSP transcoding capability to perform 123648 G.722 to G.711 transcodes.  However, the system does not have enough bandwidth to transcode that many sessions.  Assuming a 20 ms packet size, the two 10 gigabit interfaces allow transcoding of approximately 99,000 G.722 to G.711 calls.

The SBC 7000 system can support the following capacities when fully populated with four DSP-LCs:

SBC 7000 Transport Capacities

FeatureCapacity
Lawful Intercept4,000 sessions
NICEAt least 32,000 sessions
MCTAt least 32,000 sessions
RTCP Termination150,000 sessions
RTCP relay150,000 sessions
RTP inactivity detection150,000 sessions
RFC2833 DTMF detection (NP)At least 2,048 digits/second
RFC2833 DTMF insertion (NP)At least 2,048 digits/second
Note

For MCT, only 10 calls can be configured per media capture server. Therefore, it takes over 3,000 servers to actually reach this capacity. The exact number of NICE and MCT calls supported depends on how the calls are allocated internally.

Info

For help with installing/removing DSP-LC modules, refer to SBC 7000 DSP-LC Card Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) page.

SBC 7000 with One DSP-LC

The following table depicts the maximum number of sessions between two codec types on an SBC 7000 with one DSP-LC module installed. An SBC 7000 can be configured with up to four DSP-LC modules.

Info

If more than one module is installed, multiply the values in the table below by a factor of two, three or four, as appropriate, to obtain approximate DSP density values. DSP density values are approximate and intended for use as a general guide when estimating transcoding capabilities.

Values associated with the same codec (i.e. like-codec to like-codec) refer to re-packetization.

Note

Enabling V.8 signal analysis will further reduce densities. See V.8 Signal Analysis Support for details.

DSP Density Limitations

Cells highlighted in the matrix below may be limited by bandwidth depending on packet size for the following DSP-LC configurations/color combinations:

  • Two DSP-LCs: yellow
  • Three DSP-LCs: yellow, green
  • Four DSP-LCs: yellow, green, blue
