The Sonus SBC 1000 requires that you explicitly configure each Ethernet port. At least one IP address must be configured and it is not necessary to the other two IP addresses. When configuring IPv4 interfaces or IPv4/IPv6 interfaces, an optional Secondary IP address may also be configured on the Ethernet port (this option is not available for IPv6 interfaces only).

Ethernet 3 IP Setup is available only if running SBC 1000 v2 hardware (which includes 3 Ethernet ports). For hardware details, see Sonus SBC 1000 Hardware Specifications.

The secondary IP address is useful for WebUI or API operations only, and should not be used for VOIP media or protocols such as SIP, RTP and SRTP.

Important Notes
  • The primary IP address assigned to Ethernet 1 IP cannot be removed.
  • The primary IP address assigned to Ethernet 2 IP can be removed by setting the IP address to 0.0.0.0 and setting the Netmask to a valid non-zero value (e.g. 255.255.255.0).
  • The IP address for Ethernet 3 IP is not assigned automatically.
  • If configuring a default route, then the Gateway must set such that it is part of exactly one of the configured IP subnets.

To Modify the IP Address on the Sonus SBC 1000

  1. In the WebUI, click the Tasks tab.

  2. In the left navigation pane, under the IP Protocols, click Modify Ethernet IP Address.

    Modify Ethernet IP

  3. Modify the Ethernet 1 IP Setup information as necessary (if required, modify the Ethernet 2 IP Setup and Ethernet 3 IP Setup information).

For Ethernet 1 IP Setup, the example shows the IP Addressing Mode set at Both (IPv4 and IPv6).

  4. Modify the Default IP Route information as necessary.

Ethernet IP Setup - IPv4 Field Definitions

The following fields below are displayed when IPv4 or Both is selected from the IP Addressing Mode option.

IP Addressing Mode

Specifies the IP address mode that is assigned for that Ethernet port. This field determines the type of interface. Valid entry: IPv4, IPv6, Both, or None. Default entry: IPv4. Depending on the mode selected, specific configuration fields are displayed; these are noted where applicable.

NOTE: The None option is unavailable for Ethernet 1 IPv4 Setup; when None is selected as the IP Addressing Mode for Ethernet 2 IPv4 Setup, or Ethernet 3 IPv4 Setup, the additional configuration fields are not displayed.

IP Assign Method

Specifies how the IP address is assigned for that interface. Select from the drop down box. Available options: Static (user configured IP address) or DHCP (DHCP is used to automatically acquire the IP address). When this field is set to DHCP, the remaining fields are not displayed.

Primary Address

Specifies the Primary IP Address through which the SBC communicates over Ethernet, and by which the applications may be accessed.

Primary Netmask

Specifies the network mask applied to the Primary IP Address.

Configure Secondary Interface

Specifies whether or not a secondary Ethernet IP address is configured for the SBC. When this field is enabled, the Secondary Address and Secondary Netmask fields are displayed.

Secondary Address

Specifies the Secondary IP Address through which the SBC communicates over Ethernet, and by which the applications may be accessed.

Secondary Netmask

Specifies the Secondary Netmask applied to the Primary IP Address.

Ethernet IP Setup - IPv6 Field Definitions

The following fields below are displayed when IPv6 or Both is selected from the IP Addressing Mode option.

Primary Address

Specifies the Primary IPv6 address for the interface through which the SBC 1000 communicates over Ethernet. Example IPv6 address: 2001:db8:10::197.

Primary Address Prefix

Specifies the Primary IPv6 network prefix length for the interface through which the SBC 1000 communicates over Ethernet. Valid entry 1 - 127. Default value: 64.

Ethernet IP Setup - Both (IPv4 and IPv6) Field Definitions

The configuration fields for both IPv4 and IPv6 are displayed when Both is selected from the IP Addressing Mode option. See  Ethernet IP Setup - IPv4 Field Definitions and Ethernet IP Setup - IPv6 Field Definitions.

General Default Route Configuration - Field Definitions

Configure Default IPv4 Route

Specifies whether or not an IPv4 Default Static IP Route is configured.

If this option is enabled, an IPv4 Default Static IP Route will be created in the Static IP Route Table. The Gateway IP Address for this route will be the IP Address specified in the Gateway field, and a value of 0.0.0.0 will be applied in the Destination IP field such that any address on the gateway is reachable.

The Configure Default IPv4 Route field is not visible if any of the interfaces are using DHCP.

Gateway - IPv4

Specifies the IPv4 Address of the Default Gateway used by the Sonus SBC 1000. This field is only available if the Configure Default IPv4 Route field is set to Yes.

The Gateway field is not visible if any of the interfaces are using DHCP.

Configure Default IPv6 Route

Specifies whether or not a IPv6 Default Static IP Route is configured.

If this option is enabled, an IPv6 Default Static IP Route will be created in the Static IP Route Table. The Gateway IP Address for this route will be the IP Address specified in the Gateway field, and a value of 0.0.0.0 will be applied in the Destination IP field such that any address on the gateway is reachable.

The Configure IPv6 Default Route field is not visible if any of the interfaces are using DHCP.

Gateway - IPv6

Specifies the IPv6 Address of the Default Gateway used by the Sonus SBC 1000. This field is only available if the Configure Default IPv6 Route field is set to Yes.

The Gateway field is not visible if any of the interfaces are using DHCP.
