The following section is only applicable to the DSC 8000, the DSC SWe (on MA-RMS), the Signaling Platform 2000 (SP2000), and the virtual SP2000 (on MA-RMS).
The ATM channel behavior is different from TDM channel behavior on the I/O cards. TDM channels can be created, modified, and deleted on the same card with other TDM and ATM channels in service, provided that the card is licensed for these channels and that you are using the permitted channel combination (see Table AMC348 Link Capabilities Matrix or Table PCE382 Link Capabilities Matrix). The only limitation for deleting TDM channels exists at MTP3. Make sure that you do not delete a TDM channel that is used for LSL and/or Annex A Links. You must delete these links before you delete the corresponding TDM channel (for more information, refer to Configuring LS Links and Configuring Annex A Links).
You cannot create or delete ATM channels if any other ATM channels are in service on the same card. Also, the manipulation of ATM channels is very limited if you have any such channels in service. Before you create, delete, or reconfigure ATM channel attributes if you have other ATM channels in service, you must deactivate all ATM channels on the card. If you do not deactivate these channels, traffic on a live system is adversely affected

Creating and configuring ATM channels includes the steps in the same order as presented in this section.
Determining the Required Channel Configuration
Before you can proceed with creating and configuring ATM channels on an I/O card, you must decide the precise link combination required on this card.
The following table provides the possible channel combinations for the AMC308 cards.

To select the required channel combination
- From the Main Menu, click the required I/O card on the Hardware image.
- Click the required I/O card.
- Click Capacity Configuration.
- Select the required channel combination.
- Click Continue.
- Reboot the card.

Configuring the Port(s)
You must configure the ports on the I/O card. For information about performing these tasks, refer to Configuring IO Cards and the SS7 Interfaces.
Configuring the Clocking
You must configure the port clocking for the I/O cards. For more information about performing these tasks, refer to Configuring the Clock Synchronization for I/O Cards.
Creating and Configuring TDM and ATM Channel(s)
Before you can create and configure the ATM channels on an I/O card, if you plan to provision both ATM and TDM channels on this card, it is recommended that you configure the TDM channels first.
For information about configuring TDM channels, refer to Configuring TDM Signaling Channels.
To configure ATM channels on an I/O card, you must perform the steps in the same order as presented in the following list:
- create all the required ATM channels
- configure all ATM channels
- activate all ATM channels
To create HSL ATM channel(s)
To configure HSL ATM channel(s)
To Activate and Deactivate an ATM Channel(s)
Reconfiguring TDM and ATM Channels
You can create, configure, and reconfigure TDM channel(s) as previously described if required without interrupting any of the other TDM or ATM channels on the same card with the only limitation at MTP3. Make sure that you do not delete a TDM channel that is used for LSL and/or Annex A Links. You must delete these links before you delete the corresponding TDM channel.
You can change the following attributes of ATM channels without interrupting the functionality of these channels:
- logging
- congestion
- SSCF timers configuration if the respective ATM channel is deactivated first
However, any creation and reconfiguration of ATM channels can only take place if all ATM channels on the respective card are deactivated.
You cannot create or delete ATM channels if any other ATM channels are in service on the same card. Also, the manipulation of ATM channels is very limited if you have any such channels in service. Before you create, delete, or reconfigure ATM channel attributes if you have other ATM channels in service, you must deactivate all ATM channels on the card. If you do not deactivate these channels, traffic on a live system is adversely affected.
Deactivating all ATM channels on a card causes the TDM channels to drop out of service until the ATM channels are reactivated (see the following screen capture).
It is recommended that you deactivate ATM channels only when the traffic levels are low before creating, deleting or reconfiguring an ATM channel.
