Ribbon SBC SWe Lite Release 8.1.5 build 239
This page describes new supported features, and known limitations for the latest release of the Ribbon Session Border Controller Software Edition Lite (SBC SWe Lite).

The License Format Version 2 is obsolete as of the SBC SWe Lite Release 8.0.4 and later 8.0.x releases, and Release 8.1.5 and later (refer to the License Types - Availability table). You can no longer download any SBC SWe Lite software from Ribbon that supports License Format Version 2. Before you upgrade your SBC SWe Lite software, you must determine whether you should contact Ribbon Support to acquire a License Format Version 3 to enable features (see the Working with Licenses warning).

The Ribbon products in the following table support all SBC SWe Lite features and functionality for release 8.1.5
The SBC SWe Lite is a virtualized, enterprise SBC designed for small- and mid-sized businesses. The SBC SWe Lite provides a virtual Customer Premise Equipment (vCPE) option for organizations looking to virtualize their interworking, security, and survivability for Unified Communications (UC). The SBC SWe Lite gives you the power to rapidly expand and activate features remotely using a simple license key, eliminating the need for on-site technicians or disruption to operations during peak business hours. With support for virtualization environments such as VMware ESXi, KVM, and Microsoft Azure, the SBC SWe Lite can be installed quickly and easily.
Ribbon SBC SWe Lite Release 8.1.5 Build 239 is a new release for the SBC SWe Lite product line.
The following SBC SWe Lite software is required for this release:
After the software is downloaded and installed, use the WebUI to verify the currently installed software versions.
For Microsoft Hyper-V deployments only: Downgrading from Release 8.0 to an earlier release is not supported.
SBC SWe Lite is not supported on the Hypervisor platform VMware ESXi 5.5 running on Dell PowerEdge 740 hardware.

This section contain specific upgrade notes for customers planning to upgrade to SBC SWe Lite 8.1.5.
For SBC SWe Lite initially deployed via Azure Marketplace: The system is not automatically upgraded in the cloud; you must upgrade following the instructions below.
For SBC SWe Lite initially deployed via On Premises deployment (via Microsoft Hyper-V, KVM Hypervisor, or VMware ESXi): Follow the instructions below for upgrading.
Before you upgrade your SBC SWe Lite do the following:
A configuration backup must be performed before proceeding with the upgrade. Refer to Backing Up Data.
Follow the general upgrade procedure outlined in the Upgrading SBC SWe Lite.

Log into your SBC SWe Lite to locate and record the Software Version (refer to Viewing the Software Version and Hardware ID). Perform the following based on your Software Version:
This release includes all bug fixes implemented In the release which are documented in the Supported Upgrade Paths. To view bug fixes in previous releases, refer to the release notes(s) of interest from the SBC SWe Lite Documentation Home Page.
The F1s, F2s, & F4s VMs are no longer supported for SBC SWe Lite deployments in Azure. As such, please update your SBC SWe Lite deployment in Azure to any currently supported VM. For more information, refer to Virtual Machine Requirements - Microsoft Azure or contact your Ribbon sales representative.
Following an upgrade from SBC SWe Lite 8.0.x to SBC SWe Lite 8.1.0 and later, you must change the VM size to an SBC SWe Lite 8.1.0 and later supported VM according to the matrix below. For detailed information on changing the VM size, refer to Changing vCPU and Increasing Memory/VM Size.
All resolved issues in SBC Edge 8.1.0 are included in SBC SWe Release 8.1.5. For the list of resolved issues, refer to SBC SWe Lite 8.1.0 Release Notes.

Ribbon SBC SWe Lite now offers License Format Version 3 exclusively as the license source. SBC SWe Lite License Format Version 2 is now deprecated as a license source for SBC SWe Lite 8.1.5 and later.

CHOR-2432 Local Media Optimization
The SBC SWe Lite can be configured for Local Media Optimization for Microsoft Teams Direct Routing. Local Media Optimization allows the Microsoft Teams Direct Routing media flow to always use the shortest path to improve the SBC Edge's media quality and bandwidth usage. The Microsoft Teams Direct Routing media flow can be directly establish between the Teams client and the SBC, even if the SBC does not have Microsoft Teams Direct Routing connectivity.
