Caution

Commissioning, decommissioning, installing, or extracting the DSC SWe - vSP2000 VMs must be performed during a maintenance window. Otherwise, the system may not perform as expected.

Commissioning or decommissioning any of the DSC SWe - vSP2000 VMs changes the composition of the system hardware and software. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you prepare a Complete Configuration Backup before and after commissioning or decommissioning of these VMs. For more information about preparing such a backup, refer to the DSC - SP2000 Platform Manager User Guide.

A backup can only be restored on a system where the slot configuration is the same as the composition that existed when the backup was performed. The system prevents you from restoring a backup if the current slot configuration does not match the slot configuration of the backup. Therefore, taking a backup is important before and after commissioning or decommissioning a new VM.

Do not log onto the system using the shared IP addresses on the Routing and Management VMs during the upgrade procedures provided in this section. These addresses are disabled as part of the upgrade process.

You must upgrade all VMs to the latest DSC SWe - vSP2000 software and OS before commissioning the VMs.

Before you can commission a new VM, the license for this VM must be added to the system as required. For information about adding such a license, refer to License Management.

You must use the Menu UI to commission and decommission the new VMs. For information about the Menu UI, refer to the appropriate section in the Web UI and Menu UI Guide.

All the examples in this document assume a Linux/Unix environment. Alternatively, utilities such as psftp.exe and putty.exe can be used in a Windows environment for SSH connections.

For more information about preparing the system for a maintenance window, refer to the Planning the Maintenance Window.

For information about extracting and installing system VMs, refer to the appropriate documentation for the host system.
