In this section:

The Link Detection Group object allows you to group interfaces and associated Link Monitors together and track link verification failures within the group. A Link Detection Group will be configured with a unique name and a failover threshold. The Link Detection Group tracks the number of link verification failures that have occurred among the Link Monitors configured.

In addition to a Failover Threshold, a Link Detection Group can also be configured with values for the verifyTimer, responseTimer, reattemptTimer and retries. These values will be used for each Link Monitor belonging to the group, unless that Link Monitor is configured with its own unique values for these fields.

Link detection failure alarms are generated by Link Verification Manager (LVM) and are raised only when LDG is configured. NRS generated alarms are raised regardless of whether LDG is configured.

If no LDG is configured on the management ports, then  SBC allows manual switch-overs.

When configuring a Link Detection Group, if the default address context is selected, the Interface type (ip or mgmt) is displayed. Whereas, when a non-default address context is selected, the ‘Type’ field does not display any option. It defaults to the type 'ip'. This is because the Management (MGMT) interfaces are not within an address context. They are configured at the system level.

To View Link Detection Group

On SBC main screen, go to Configuration > System Provisioning > Category: Base Provisioning > Link Detection Group. The Link Detection Group window is displayed.

Link Detection Group

The Link Detection Group can be checked for each Address Context or for all the Address Contexts created. Use the drop-down box to select the desired Address Context.

The following fields are displayed:

Link Detection Group Parameters

Parameter

Description

Name

The name of this link detection group. Must be 1-23 characters.

Ce Name

The name of the compute element that hosts this link detection group. Must be 1-23 characters.

'ce Name' is not the system name. For an HA system, link detection needs to be setup on both CEs.

Type

You can choose one of the following:

  • IP
  • mgmt

Threshold

Specifies the link detection group threshold. Default is 2.

Verify Timer

The time interval between link verification attempts. The time (in milliseconds) to send the ICMP Echo when the link is up, as well as the time to await the ICMP Echo Reply from an IP destination.

Verify Timer has no default value for Link Monitor. The default timer value for Link Detection Group is 15000 (milliseconds).

Response Timer

Time to wait for a link verification attempt. Minimum timer value is 300 (milliseconds).

Response Timer has no default value for Link Monitor. The default value for Link Detection Group is 1000 (milliseconds).

Reattempt
Timer

Time to wait for a link verification reattempt. Minimum timer value is 300 (milliseconds).

Reattempt Timer has no default for Link Monitor. The default for Link Detection Group is 1000 (milliseconds).

Retries

Specifies the number of retries before link verification is considered failed. Minimum is 1.

Retries has no default for Link Monitor. The default for Link Detection Group is 3.

State

It specifies the administrative state of the link detection group.

  • disabled (default)
  • enabled
