Ensure that the host you are going to add contains valid licenses.

Perform the following procedure to add a host:

  1. From navigation pane of vCenter Home screen, select Host.

    The Hosts screen displays.

    The figures shown in this procedure are intended as examples of the user interface and might not match the presented image exactly.

  2. Click Add Host icon.

  3. Enter VMware host's name or IP address to add to vCenter Server. (Step 1 of "Add Host")

  4. Select location to add host:

    1. Click arrow next to vCenter server (in this example, "barbet-vcenter") to view list of datacenters, clusters or host folders.

    2. Select datacenter and click Next to continue to step 2 of "Add Host" procedure.

  5. Enter the administrative account information for the host:
    1. Select User name field, and enter user name.
    2. Select Password field, and enter password.
    3. Click Next.

      If you receive an authenticity security alert message, click Yes to continue.

      Host summary details display in the 'Add Host' step 3 procedure.

  6.  Click Next to continue.

    A list of license keys displays (Add Host step 4).

  7. Select a license key to assign to the host, and click Next.

    The Lockdown mode screen displays (Add Host step 5).

  8. Click Next to continue.

    Do not enable Lockdown mode.

  9. From the next screen, select a VM location (Add Host step 6), and click Next.

  10. From the next screen (Add Host step 7), verify your host configuration, and click Finish.

 Continue to Create a Distributed Switch.
