Overview

The SBC, like other Sonus devices, uses SNMP traps to notify management applications of events. SNMP traps are the messages that notify a management client that an event has occurred on the SBC node. These traps are not displayed in EMA and can be viewed from Insight EMS or other SNMP manager configured as a trap target. In case of error scenario, a trap is initiated at the device and forwarded to the EMS or to the other SNMP manager for processing.

Up to 32 trap targets can be configured on the SBC.

SNMP Traps

Traps are faults/events that SNMP devices reports. All SNMP traps are not alarms, however, all alarms are SNMP traps. However, SIP call failure is a trap and not an alarm.

SNMP Traps tagged as alarms are displayed through CLI. However, it is generated only when the parameter trapTarget is configured.

To configure trapTarget using CLI, refer How to Configure SNMP Trap Targets

To configure trap Target using EMA, refer SNMP - Trap Target

To configure traps using EMS, refer SNMP Trap Management

To view the traps, execute the command:

show table alarms currentStatus

To view trap configuration details, refer

Alarms

A trap is considered as an alarm only if it notifies a hardware fault, or a fault that requires manual intervention, or certain conditions that lights up the SBC LEDs. In other cases (such as SIP call failure) it is only a trap and not alarm. Alarms are displayed in CLI, EMA, and for major/critical alarms on the SBC itself through LEDs.”

Alarms are warnings that indicate an abnormal activity such as a software failures, system faults, exceptions, hardware issues, and so on. Alarms are primarily viewed using CLI and EMA. But major and critical alarms are viewed through LEDs on SBC.

SBC displays alarms according to the following categories:

  • Current alarms
  • History alarms

Current Alarms

The Current Alarms screen displays the alarms that are not cleared. Current alarms are viewed using EMA and CLI.

To display the Current alarms using CLI, execute the following command:

% show table alarms currentStatus

The results display similar to the figure Current alarms (displayed in CLI mode):

Current alarms (displayed in CLI mode)

To display the Current alarms using EMA,

On the SBC Main Screen, go to Troubleshooting > Troubleshooting Tools > Alarms > Current Alarms

Current Alarms

History Alarms

History Alarms provides historical information about the alarms which occurred on the system, such as the time when the alarms were added/updated/modified/cleared. Historical alarm details are displayed using CLI or from the EMA Dashboard.

For example, to display the list of alarms which occurred on the SBC, execute the following command from CLI:

> show table alarms historyStatus

The output is displayed similar to the figure below:

History alarms output.
