Managing the Backup/Restore Configuration

Use the Backup/Restore Configuration page to save your current configuration or restore a previous one. You can also download the saved configuration to a local PC or upload one from the local PC.

Choose Admin > Backup / Restore from the Configuration Menu to view the Backup/Restore Configuration page (see the following screen capture).

Displays saved backup file.

Create New Config Backup

Click Create New Config Backup to create a new backup configuration based on the currently running configuration. The new backup file is given a new name based on the hostname, date, and time. The resulting filename is displayed in the Backup File column in the System Saved Configuration table. See Creating a new Backup Configuration File.

Restore Saved Configuration

Click Restore Saved Configuration to use the contents of the backup file shown in the System Saved Configuration table to restore the original

Upload a Local Configuration File

Encryption Key

Select the encryption key to decrypt the configuration file. You can choose:

  • Default Key—Uses the default Encryption Key to decrypt.
  • Current Key—Uses the Current Encryption Key in the device.
  • Custom Key—Enter a 16 character key in the field provided. The key must not contain {%, $, <, >,',”} characters.

Download the Configuration

Click the hyperlinked file in the System Saved Configuration table to download the saved configuration from the

to your local drive. See Downloading the Saved Configuration to a Local Drive.

Creating a new Backup Configuration File

You can create a new backup configuration based on the currently running configuration. The new backup file is given a new name based on the hostname, date, and time. The resulting filename is displayed under the Backup File column in the System Saved Configuration table.

To Create a new Backup Configuration File

  1. On the Backup/Restore Configuration page, click Create New Config Backup.


  2. A message alerts you that you are overwriting the existing backup file. Click OK to continue. The new backup file appears in the System Saved Configuration table.

  3. To download the saved configuration from the

    to your local drive, click your hyperlinked backup file in the System Saved Configuration table.


  4. In the dialog box, choose whether to save or open the file and click OK.

Restoring a Previous Backup File

The system uses the contents of the backup file shown in the System Saved Configuration table to restore the system configuration.

To Restore a Previous Backup File

  1. Click Restore Saved Configuration.

    The matching encryption key must be used with the restored configuration. You will be restoring the System to the previously saved configuration.



  2. A message indicates that service will be temporarily interrupted. Click OK to confirm.

Uploading a Backup Configuration File from Your Local Drive

This section outlines how to upload a backup configuration file to your local drive.

To Upload a Backup Configuration File from Your Local Drive

  1. Click Browse to locate the file on your PC. The file must have the .conf1 extension.


  2. Click Download File. The uploaded file becomes the new System Saved Configuration file.

If desired, you can download the saved configuration from the system to your local drive.

  1. On the Backup/Restore Configuration page, click the hyperlinked file in the System Saved Configuration table.

  2. In the dialog box, choose whether to save or open the file and click OK.
