The EMA object Workspace Settings is accessible only to EMA users with administrative privileges.

 

Use this object to configure and customize Workspace that suits the roles of different users. However, before you configure workspaces for different user roles, it is imperative to be well versed with the general concept of Workspace as implemented in the EMA.

This section describes:

  • Workspace, as appearing in the EMA top bar
  • The Workspace Settings EMA object.

Workspace in the EMA Top Bar

The top bar of the EMA contains a Workspace drop-down list.The user interface of the EMA changes based on the option selected from the Workspace drop-down list.

An administrator can customize the workspaces available to other users using the Workspace Settings, which is visible only to users with administrative privileges. For other types of users, the menu and objects provisioned by the administrator are displayed. The options in the drop-down list represents the scope and intent of the EMA user for the ongoing session. For example, the Classic workspace allows the user to use all the functionalities of the EMA. Compared to Classic, other options offer limited scope. The differences in scopes of the selected workspace for a user with administrative privileges are:

Administration

The menu and objects related to administration of the system are displayed. The menu displayed on the top bar are:

  • Users and Application Management
  •  System Administration
  • Accounting and Logs
  • Traps and SNMP

Basic Configuration

The menu and objects that are most frequently used pertaining to the basic configuration of the SBC are displayed. The menu displayed on the top bar are:

  • System Setup
  • System Provisioning
  • Security Configuration
  • Profile Management

Classic

All EMA menus and objects are displayed. This is the default workspace for an user with administrative privileges.

Workspace Settings

The Workspace Settings is a tool for the SBC administrators to customize and provision workspaces (a collection of menu and EMA objects/screens) for different types of EMA user, based on the enterprise policies and requirements.

To use the Workspace Settings tool, log on to the EMA as an administrator and navigate to Administration > Users and Application Management > Workspace Settings. The Workspace Settings window is displayed.

To Customize Administrator's Workspaces

To customize the workspaces for an administrative user, use the Available Workspaces - Administrator table. By default, the Workspace for an administrator is set to Classic, and all the workspaces are available for the administrator.

To set an workspace other than Classic as the default workspace for an adminsitrator, click Default corresponding to the desired workspace.

To make workspaces unavailable for administrator, click the check-boxes corresponding to the undesired workspaces.

Click Save to save the changes, or Undo Edits to cancel them.

To Customize Workspaces for Non-Administrative Users

To customize the workspaces available for other types of users, select the user's role from the User Role drop-down list (default User Role is Administrator).

For example, use the User Role drop-down list to select the user's role as Operator.

The change in the user's role is reflected in the Available Workspaces - Administrator table. The available workspaces for an user of type Operator and the default workspace is shown below:

To set a workspace other than Basic Configuration as the default workspace for an Operator (or other types of users, based on the type selected from the User's Role drop-down list), click Default corresponding to the desired workspace.

To make workspaces available/unavailable for a user of type Operator, click the check-boxes corresponding to the desired/undesired workspaces.

Click Save to save the changes, or Undo Edits to cancel them.

The following figure shows the list of workspace options with a custom workspace added. Refer to Users and Application Management - Custom Workspaces for information on creating custom workspaces.
