Live Monitor is a configurable dashboard tool that displays a range of graphs for both real-time monitoring and historical performance monitoring. Each graph can be configured individually to change the time range and other parameters, such as, call cause codes and call duration. Some graphs can be customized to show data for specific zones, trunk groups, or IP Interfaces. All users except Security Auditors and CALEA users have the ability to view the Live Monitor window.

Live Monitor can be opened either from the Live Monitor link on the home EMA window, or using the following path:  Monitoring > Dashboard > Live Monitor

Enabling or Disabling Live Monitoring (Polling)

Data collection for Live Monitor can be enabled or disabled at any time. By default data collection is disabled. When enabled, data is retrieved from the Call Count Status table to retrieve all the active calls on SBC. The Data is polled at frequent intervals (every minute).  To retrieve active calls for specific zones and trunk groups, the Call Current Statistics table is used. This data is polled every 15 minutes.

To enable/disable Live Monitoring, on the Live Monitor window, click the desired option as shown in the following figure.

Info
titleNote:

Live Monitoring can't cannot be enabled on a sytem with system with less than 6 CPUs and less than 16 GB RAM.

Live Monitor data purging occurs on either a disk-space or age basis:

  • Disk-based purge - Occurs when the database reaches a system-defined percent of the overall partition size. Disk-based purging takes precedence over aged-based purging.
  • Age-based purge - Occurs when the data is older than a system-defined time period.
Info
titleNote:

In HA deployments, Live Monitoring configuration parameters and data on the Active active system are also available on the Standby standby system. However, during a failover, some of the Live Monitor data may not be saved to the database.

Configuring Live Monitor Settings

Administrators and Operators have the ability to change the settings for Live Monitor and for the individual charts on the page.

To select which Live Monitor metrics appear on the Live Monitor window and optionally specify data targets:

  1. Click Configure Live Monitor. A configuration pop-up window opens.
  2. Click on metrics to move them between the Available Metrics and Selected Metrics lists. Live Monitor displays charts for the metrics in the Selected Metrics list.
  3. Use the drop-down list of numbers on the right of each metric to select the number of instances (up to 5) of the chart to display. The default is 1.
  4. Select Collect data from selected zones and trunk groups below to open lists where you can select the data targets if you want to collect data from specific zones, trunk groups or IP interfaces.
  5. Click OK.

The settings for the Live Monitor screen apply to all users. If one user changes the settings for Live Monitor or for an individual chart, the same change is applied for all EMA users.

The following metrics can be monitored by Live Monitor:

  •  Licensed Service Usage
  • Active Calls per Zone/Trunk Group
  • Short Duration Calls
  • Long Duration Calls
  • Call Disconnect Reason
  • Call Attempts/Call Completions
  • Call Attempts/Call Completions per Zone/Trunk Group
  • Bandwidth Allocated
  • Bandwidth Allocated per IP Interface
  • Bandwidth Usage
  • Bandwidth Usage per Zone/Trunk Group

Auto-refresh rates: The data in charts auto-refreshes at regular intervals based on the range selected for the chart. For example:

    • If the display range is one hour, trunk group, zone, and IP Interface based charts refresh every 15 minutes, while all other charts refresh every one minute.

    • If the range is 3, 6 or 12 hours, the charts refresh every 15 min.

    • If the range is in days, the charts refresh every hour.

Persistence: Every individual chart is persistent. The settings for each chart and the number of charts is saved automatically between logins.
