This article describes the steps necessary to update remotely the ASM Recovery Partition. While the recommended way is to we recommend that you use a flash drive locally plugged on the ASM in order to load a new ASM image into the system, we now support a method who do that does not require a physical access to the SBC . The difficulty comes from getting the approx. 4GB file onto the ASM. You will need a way of transmitting this large ASM Image to the ASM over the network.Edge.

Update of ASM Recovery Partition Overview

...

Before proceeding, make sure that you have the appropriate ASM Image, downloadable from the Sonus SBC Edge Ribbon Support Portal - Download Center. Multiple images are available, so be sure to select the image relevant to your system. It is a single file ASMimage.tar.

...

  • Putting the image file on a Windows or Samba server that the SBC is able to reach.
  • Using the file transfer facilities of Remote Desktop Connection. This can be done by allowing the ASM to access the local resources of your PC (enabled in Options, Local Resources, More, Drives), or by using the its clipboard Copy/Paste functionality (Copy the file in Windows Explorer of the local PC, and Paste it in the Remote Desktop session). Note that these methods transfers files quite slowly.
  • Using the ASM itself to download the image directly from the Sonus SBC Edge Ribbon Support Portal - Download Center . To do this, you will need to add https://na8.salesforce.com to Internet Explorer's Trusted Site list.

...

  1. Enable Remote Desktop on the ASM (if it is not enabled already), as described in Enabling and Disabling Remote Desktop on the ASM.

  2. Set an Administrator Password on the ASM, to facilitate this remote login - see Changing the ASM Admin Password.

  3. Open Remote Desktop Connection and connect to the ASM (using the IP address configured earlier). Log in as Administrator, with the password entered in the previous step.

  4. Once in the remote session, transfer the ASMimage.tar file onto the ASM using your chosen transfer method. Once it is on the system, move it to the root of the C: drive.

  5. Minimize the Remote Desktop session and return to the SBC web UI, and select Update ASM Recovery Partition. from the Tasks tab. Ignore the USB references here - the operation will execute using the file we put on the C: drive.

  6. Click Apply to begin the process which takes approximately five minutes, after which a notification displays to indicate completion.

  7. Finally, return to the Remote Desktop session and delete the ASMimage.tar file.
