PoE is used to transmit power along with data over standard twisted-pair cable. This is useful for powering IP telephones, wireless LAN access points, and other devices that would be inconvenient to supply power separately. There are global and port settings that can be configured in this page along with port PoE status information.

  1. Choose Switch > PoE Config.

  2. Configure settings using the information in the following table as a guide.

    ItemDescription

    Power Management Mode

Configures the method for distributing power to the PoE ports.

    • Priority based mode—Distributes power based on priority from high to low.

    • Allocation based mode—Distributes power based on the allocated power configured per port.

Enable Reset POEAllows you to reset PoE quickly before starting LLDP to give the system time to register before the IP phones boot.
    Power Reservation0.00% (0.0 W / 185 W) Sets the percentage of total power reserved.
PortLists all ports on the system.
EnableEnables or disables PoE on a port.
    Delivering Power (W)

Displays the power currently being delivered to a port in watts.

    Current (mA)

Displays the current being drawn from a port in milliamps.

PrioritySets port power priority for each port:
    • High

    • Medium

    • Low

Allocation (W)Sets the power allocation in watts for each port. The sum of power for all ports cannot exceed the system’s total power.

  3. Select the Enable Reset PoE checkbox to allow the IP phones to register in sync with system network configuration.

  4. Observe current power levels in the Power Reservation table.
  5. Allocate power to individual ports:
    1. Select the checkbox for each port that you want to manage.
    2. Choose a power priority for the chosen port from the Priority drop-down list:

      • High

      • Medium

      • Low

    3. In the Allocation (W) field for the chosen port, enter the power allocation in watts.

  6. Click Submit to save your settings.
