WAN failover enables the system to be configured with two WAN interfaces simultaneously: one as Primary and the other as Secondary. The following Primary/Secondary interfaces combinations are supported:

Two Physical Devices

  • Ethernet Static IP and T1/ADSL
  • Ethernet DHCP and T1/ADSL
  • Ethernet PPPoE and T1/ADSL
  • Ethernet DHCP and Ethernet DHCP—Available only when Dual WAN Ports is enabled.

Two Networks Over a Single Ethernet Device

  • Ethernet Static IP and Ethernet Static IP
  • Ethernet Static IP and Ethernet DHCP
  • Ethernet Static IP and Ethernet PPPoE

To exclude an interface from Primary/Secondary combination, select the default system configuration for that interface:

Most EdgeMarcs support dual WAN interfaces. The use of the WAN T1 interface and the secondary WAN interface is also supported. Further, some Edgemarc model 6000s support the use of a mobile network connection as the secondary interface.

Info

For Configuring Dual WAN ports, refer Configuring WAN Failover Settings.

To configure Secondary WAN interface settings:

  1. Choose Network > WAN Failover > Secondary WAN Config.

  2. Configure settings using the information in the table below. When you have finished configuring settings, click Submit to make your changes take effect. For more information on submitting your  configuration changes, refer to Submit Configuration Changes.

    WAN Interface IPv6 Settings
Selects the type of IPv6 WAN interface to use to connect to the internet.

    • Disabled - Secondary WAN interface settings are disabled (default).
    • DHCP - Configures the device to obtain the WAN-side IP address using a DHCP server available from the WAN side of the network.
    • Static IP - Configures the Secondary WAN interface with a static IP address:
    • VLAN - Enables WAN VLAN support. See Configure WAN VLAN Settings for configuration information.
Note: WAN VLAN support is limited to a single WAN VLAN.
    • Mobile:  Enables you to get a WAN side IP address via a mobile network service provider. Make sure the SIM Card is inserted before booting the device. Otherwise, reboot the device to get the SIM card detected. Refer to Configure WAN Interface Settings.
Note: The option Mobile is available only on

    WAN Interface IPv4 Settings

Selects the type of IPv4 WAN interface to use to connect to the Internet. See Configuring WAN Interface IPv4 Settings for configuration information.

    • Disabled - Secondary WAN interface settings are disabled (default).
ADSL -Configures the integrated ADSL modem (available only on certain models):
    • ADSL-PPPoE
    • ADSL-PPPoATM - Only on ADSL WAN based models. See IPv4 ADSL for configuration information.
    • PPPoE - Initiates a PPP session over your WAN Ethernet port. Provide the PPPoE username and password given by your ISP after selecting this option. See IPv4 PPPoE for configuration information.
    • DHCP -Configures the device to obtain the WAN-side IP address using a DHCP server available from the WAN side of the network. See IPv4 DHCP for configuration information.
    • Static IP Address - Configures the WAN interface with a static IP address (default). See IPv4 Static IP for configuration information.
    • VLAN - Selects the VLAN defined in Configure WAN Interface Settings. See IPv4 VLAN for configuration information.T1 - Configures the WAN interface with a static IP address and tests the T1 interface on the system using the T1 Configuration page. T1 configuration options are only available on certain models. Refer to IPv4 T1 and Configuring T1 Settings for configuration information.
    • Mobile:  Enables you to get a WAN side IP address via a mobile network service provider. Make sure the SIM Card is inserted before booting the device. Otherwise, reboot the device to get the SIM card detected. Refer to Configure WAN Interface Settings.
