Use the following workflow to configure a pair of Edge 8300

Log In and Start the Setup Wizard

Complete the System Menu

  1. From the System Startup Configuration window, select System and press Enter.
  2. The System Configuration window appears, showing available elements to configure: 
    Hostname, Time Zone, Time Server, RAMP Server, PRI type, and 6WIND fast path cores.
  3. Press the down-arrow key to select an element in the System Configuration window.
    For example, 
    1. Select Hostname and press Enter.
      The Host Configuration window appears.
    2. Configure the Hostname settings.
    3. Enter OK to save the settings.
      The System Configuration window appears again, enabling you to select another element for configuration.
  4. Configure the settings per the following Field Definitions.

Complete the BR1-5 Menus

  1. From the System Startup Configuration window, select a bridge and press Enter
    The Bridge Configuration window appears, for example, BR1 Configuration window.

  2. Configure the BR settings per the following Field Definitions.

    For High Availability, configure Bridge 5 (br5) as the HA interface:

    • Disable DHCP Client (press the space bar to change the field to [  ]).
    • Enter an IPv4 Address that is unique to the device being configured but on the same subnet as Bridge 5 on the other 8300 device.
    • In the bridge Members field, enter the name of the port you used for HA cabling when you physically installed the device in Connect the Network Cables. Example: ge6.

Complete the SWe-Edge Settings Menu

  1. From the System Startup Configuration window, select SWe-Edge Settings and press Enter
    The Swe-Edge Configuration window appears.
  2. Configure the SWe Edge settings per . Refer to the following Field Definitions following this step for field descriptions, including default values.

    For High Availability:

    • Set the CPUs value to 4. This increases the CPUs assigned to SWe Edge processing, as required for High Availability processing. (Earlier, in Complete the System Setup, you decreased the number of CPUs assigned for 6WIND fastpath core CPUs to 2 to maintain the correct balance of CPU assignments.)
    • Enter Bridge 5 (br5) for the value of Extra Interface 2. This is the interface you configured in Complete the BR1-4 Menus for the HA interface between the two 8300 devices.


  3. Enter OK to save the settings.

Exit the Setup Wizard

Exiting the Setup Wizard saves the configuration settings and applies the changes. This will cause a service interruption for approximately 3 minutes. The system will be unreachable during this time.
