The

Spacevars
0product2
can be configured to act as a gateway (client device) connecting the IP network to PSTN through one or more T1 or E1 PRI lines. It can also work as a network device connecting a PBX to the IP network. The default configuration enables 23 B channels (bearer channels) at 64 Kbps each and 1 D channel (delta channel) at 64 Kbps each.

The

Spacevars
0product2
supports the following PRI features:

  • The appliance can be a client device (gateway) or network device, but not both.
  • Supports the following switch types:
    • 4ESS
    • 5ESS
    • DMS100
    • EURO
    • HK
    • NISDN-2 or NI2
    • JAPAN
  • The highest port number of licensed T1 ports should be used for PRI.

Network Side ISDN PRI (PRI/UA)

Network Side PRI enables the SIP_UA (SIP User Agent) to provide a standard ISDN PRI Network-side interface to the PBXs and to mimic the behavior of legacy phone switches. SIP_UA will receive calls from PBXs and connect calls on the IP network using SIP.

The following figure illustrates an example of Network Side PRI.

Client Side PRI

Client Side PRI enables the SIP gateway (GW) to provide a standard PRI client-side interface to the PSTN. SIP GW receives calls from the IP side and connects them to the PSTN and vice versa.

The following figure illustrates an example of Client Side PRI.

PRI Configuration Requirements

Note
titleCaution

Do not change the IP address unless absolutely necessary. If you change the IP address, make sure that the IP address is in the same subnet as the LAN or VLAN that the VOIP ALG is listening on. Do not use an address that is already in use.

  1. Only one type of PRI interface can be enabled at a time.
    1. Disable the current PRI configuration by deselecting the Enable checkbox on the supporting configuration page.
    2. Click Submit.
    3. Proceed to one of the following options to configure PRI:
  2. To enable service, you must configure the IP trunking device and dial rule to terminate VoIP traffic to the Network or Client side. For example, if Network PRI/UA is bound to 10.1.2.1:1025, you would add a trunking device giving the IP 10.1.2.1 and port 1025. You can pick any name for the trunking device. Once the device is added, define a dial rule that will then truncate to this newly created device.
    1. Create a SIP Trunking device for PRI with the same name as the one used in VoIP > ALG > SIP UA (Network side settings) or VoIP > ALG > SIP GW (Client side settings). Refer to Configure SIP Trunking Devices.
    2. Associate an inbound default dial rule with the newly created device. Refer to Configure Dial Rules.

      Info
      titleNote

All inbound traffic to SIP UA is forwarded to the PRI device except for the traffic destined for one of the registered FXS ports.

  3. Obtain the SIP UA IP address and port number by going to VoIP > SIP > SIP UA PRI Network configuration pages and checking for the IP-to-port binding information, for example: “SIP/UA is currently bound to address: <IP Address> and port: <Port Number>”

IP-to-port binding information is also shown on the FXS/Phone Port Settings - Basic page. Choose VoIP > SIP > SIP UA and refer to Configure Basic SIP UA FXS Settings.
