Some
devices are equipped with an SD card slot to allow the
to save more syslog information and store more files with the File Server feature. SD cards with a maximum storage capacity of 32 GB are supported. The file size limit is 4 GB. SD card capabilities are configured from the
GUI or the CLI. SD card capability is disabled by default, and if your
device does not have an SD card slot, the configuration option will not be visible in the GUI.
This section outlines how to enable the SD card.
- Insert an SD card into the 4700 Series SD card slot.
Choose Admin > SD Card.
Select the Enable SD Card checkbox and click Submit.
Proceed to Managing the SD Card.
Note |
---|
|
When the SD Card feature is enabled, and the SD card is mounted, the default Admin page displays a warning upon login that the SD card is enabled and that system performance may be degraded. The CPU is needed when logging or writing capture files to disk, which can reduce data throughput and system call capacity. If no SD card is present on the system, an error message appears in the SD Card information window. |
Managing the SD Card
This section outlines how to manage the SD card.
- Choose Admin > SD Card.
If you have not already done so, select the Enable SD Card checkbox and click Submit.
- Select the Storing the Syslog on the SD Card checkbox to store syslog data locally on the system. Larger syslog files can be saved and backed up, and older copies of the syslog file can be retained. The following fields become active:
- Number of Rotated Logs to keep—Enter the number of log files to be automatically rotated. This feature is designed to ease the administration of systems that generate large numbers of log files.
- Max Size before Rotate (in Kbytes)—Enter the number of log files to be automatically rotated when they grow bigger than the set maximum size.
- Click Submit to save your settings.
- View the following information on the SD Card page:
- SD Card Status—SD card status information like the amount of SD card storage space currently in use, whether the card is mounted or unmounted, and output for the disk free df command.
- SD Card Information—Physical SD Card information such as the manufacturer ID, maximum size, and volume name.
Choose Admin > File Server and enable Use SD Card for File Server Storage.
