Prerequisites
Gather the following items before starting the installation. Refer to Edge 8000 Shipping Contents

Connect Network Cables
Connect the SFP+ modules and the routing, analog, and console cables, all supplied by your system administrator or network planning team (notfor the list of items included in shipping.
Installation items required:
- For rack mounting the unit:
- Phillips-head screwdriver
- Chassis bracket and chassis bracket screws — To attach brackets to the chassis
- Rack mount screws — To attach the chassis by its mounting brackets to the rack
- Phillips-head screwdriver
- SFP+ modules — To connect between the public (WAN) network and the SFP ports of the unit.
- Analog telephony cables — To connect analog telephone devices to the T1/E1, FXS and FXO ports of an 8300 device.
- Ethernet cables — To connect the private (LAN) ports to private (LAN) switches or to individual VoIP devices; to connect public (WAN) ports to external WAN devices; and to connect one HA port to another HA port between two High Availability Edge 8300 devices.
- RS232 serial console cable — To provide administrative access to an Edge 8000 device from a laptop computer.

For a High Availability deployment, perform this procedure for both 8300 devices.
Start
- Remove the device and accessories from the shipping container.
- Place the device on a flat, dry surface such as a desktop, shelf, or tray.
For a rack mounted deployment, install the device on the rack.
Attach the rack mount brackets to both sides of the Edge 8000 chassis with the chassis bracket screws supplied by

Connect the Network Cables
Connect all SFP+ modules and all cables supplied by your system administrator or network planning team. This includes, for a High Availability (HA) deployment, the HA Ethernet cable between the 8300 devices, to your device.
Start
- Install the SFP+ modules.
- Connect the routing cables per your network design:
- Cables to the two SFP+ ports
- Cables to the eight Gigabit Ethernet (GE) RJ-45 ports
- For the Edge 8300 device, connect the analog telephony cables:
- T1/E1 cables to the T1/E1 ports
- FXS phone lines to the Amphenol connector
- FXO lines to the RJ-11 ports (optionally equipped)for 8300 devices equipped with FXO ports)
- For a High Availability system, connect an Ethernet cable between the HA ports of the two Edge 8300 devices.
Example: connect an Ethernet cable between port GE-6 (ge6) of the first 8300 to the same port, GE-6 (ge6), of the other 8300. - Connect the console cable from your System Administrator (laptop) computer to the Console RJ-45 port, or from a terminal server to the Console RJ-45 port.
Connect the Power Cables and Power on the Device

Connect the device to the power source and power on the system.

The equipment has a separate protective earthing terminal on the chassis that must be permanently connected to earth ground to adequately ground the chassis and protect the operator from electrical hazards. |
Start
- Connect the AC or DC power.
- If the unit is equipped with AC power, connect the AC power cable or cables from the unit to the AC outlet or outlets.
- If the unit is equipped with DC power supplies, connect the DC power source to the power lugs on the device.
- If the unit is equipped with AC power, connect the AC power cable or cables from the unit to the AC outlet or outlets.
- Press the Power Switch on.
- If the unit is equipped with a single AC power supply, press the Power Switch to the On position to start the device.
- If the unit is equipped with redundant AC or DC power supplies, press the Power Switch for 4 - 5 seconds to start the device.
- Make sure the power LED on the front panel is a solid green after the device powers on.Proceed to Workflow for Initial Setup to continue.
