Telephone Number Mapping (ENUM) transforms the telephone number into a universal identifier that can be used across different devices and applications (voice, fax, mobile, e-mail, text messaging, location-based services and the Internet). ENUM can also be used to implement variety of services like number portability, call forwarding etc. It uses a DNS NAPTR record to translate a telephone number into a Uniform Resource Identifier or IP address that can be used in Internet communications. |
The SBC can process the enumdi indicator received in ingress INVITE and avoid another redundant query and similarly, if it has done a ENUM dip in conjunction with ERE/PSX, it can send this parameter in egress INVITE thus preventing redundant queries further down the network. When a call spans multiple network elements, use the "Process Enumdi" flag to to notify the next network element that an ENUM query was performed for the 'TEL URI'.
