This section only covers how to use the VMware vSphere Client. This section does not cover how to install the guest OS on a VM for the packet capture. This procedure only applies to the Standard Switch (vSwitch) and not the Distributed Switch (dvSwitch). |
Prerequisites
The audio troubleshooting procedures require the following prerequisites:
- VMware ESXi server/host
- VMware vSphere Client or vSphere Web Client
- Guest OS media for installing the VM for the packet capture
Installing a VM for Packet Capture
Use the following procedure to install a VM for packet capture.
If required, build a new VM that performs the packet capture (for more information, refer to your VMware vSphere documentation center).

Configuring the vSwitches for Packet Capture
Use the following procedure to configure the vSwitches for packet capture.
- Access the vSphere Client.
- Select the host in the Inventory View.
- Click Configuration.
- In the Hardware panel, click Networking.
For the vSwitch you want to modify, click Properties.Anchor modify_properties modify_properties Info title Note You must modify each vSwitch that the traffic flows through.

Click Edit.

Select Accept from the Promiscuous Mode drop-down menu.

- Click Close.
- Repeat the Properties modification steps on the other vSwitches that the traffic flows through.
After you complete this procedure, you can capture packets on the packet capture VM.
