- s 1-4 are configured to only send requests to AS1
- s 5-8 can offer requests to either AS1 or AS2
- s 1-8 do not offer traffic directly to each other, they only send/receive traffic from an AS
- s 9 & 10 can offer traffic to each other as there maybe transit calls that do not need to go to an AS
- Each maintains the status of availability of the peers with which it communicates.
