The following procedure describes how to upgrade the BMC firmware from the BMC web GUI.

Warning

There are two methods of BMC Firmware Upgrade:

  • For any BMC upgrade from 2.x to 3.x, use the ".rom" file. For example: To upgrade from BMC 02.16.00 to 03.00.00, use "bmc5X00_v3.0.0-R0" file.
  • For any BMC upgrade from 3.x to 3.x, use the "Disc Image File". For example: To upgrade from BMC 03.00.00 to 03.04.00, use "firmware-5XX0-V03.04.00-R000" file.

Upgrading BMC

  1. Log on to the SBC BMC using the following credentials:

    On the The BMC main screen, select the Remote Control tab. The Remote Control screen is displayed.

  2. Click Power Control (or select Server Power Control option from the navigation pane). The Power Control and Status screen is displayed.

    Select Power Off Server - Orderly Shutdown option and click Perform Action.

  3. Select the Maintenance tab in the BMC GUI to enter the Maintenance screen.

  4. BMC Firmware Update option

    The Firmware Update screen Click Enter Update Mode. The Update Mode confirmation dialog is displayed.

  5. Click Browse, and from the Open dialog

    ,

    browse to and

    select bmc5X00_v2.xx.0-R0.rom firmware (for SBC 5000 series) image

    select firmware-5XX0-V<release>.img firmware image. Refer to the Warning at the start of this page to make sure you have chosen the correct type of file for an upgrade. To determine the exact firmware version, see

    the applicable release notes at

    SBC Release Information for guidance.

    Click Open.

    Click Upload Firmware to upload the selected BMC image file.

    An image verification dialog appears. Click OK to continue. 

  6. Click Upload.

    Note

    The firmware image is approximately 26MB file and takes few minutes to upload based on the network.

    The selected file is verified and the uploading process starts.

  7. Once the file verification is complete, BMC seeks your permission to proceed further with the upgrade. Click Confirm to proceed.

    Note

    This is a service affecting procedure and will power off the host side of SBC

    Note

    Verify that the Existing Version and New Version fields in Firmware Verification section are different. If the versions are different, continue to the next step to start the upgrade. Otherwise, click Cancel to exit out of the upgrade. A confirmation message appears on the screen. Click OK to continue. The Cancel operation reboots the BMC and host server as it must come out of the Maintenance mode.

    Once upload starts, the actions performed are displayed in the same window along with the estimated time left to complete the process.

    Click Start Upgrade. When the warning dialog displays, click OK to continue.

    Once the upgrade process starts, do not close the screen.

    The firmware upgrade process takes a few minutes to complete. The upgrade progress displays in the Flash Status screen.

    Once the firmware upgrade completes, a confirmation screen appearsupload process is complete, a message is displayed stating the same.

    Once the upgrade completes, BMC and host reboots automatically. Verify that the SBC starts and sync with its peer server before proceeding further

    Click OK to complete the process.The BMC automatically restarts at the point.

  9. Close the

    BMC GUI

    existing browser window.

  10. Clear the browser cache and log on to the BMC GUI again.

    Log on to the BMC GUI again and verify the upgraded version in the System Information page.
